About Mcminnville Youth Club Cross Country
Athletes ages 8 – 18 are welcome to join! Our cross country season begins early September with practices twice a week – usually Tuesdays and Thursdays and continues through November. Most middle school and high schoolers practice with their school teams and join our club practices after their season is over. Because of this, our early season practices are geared toward our younger elementary-aged athletes ranging in ability from beginner to experienced runners. However, for middle schoolers who don’t have a school team, you’re more than welcome to practice with us all season! Practices include teaching basics of long distance running – pacing especially – for our newbies as well as more challenging workouts to help build athletes strength and endurance. We often include some running based games toward the end of practice as well.
All our athletes are encouraged to compete in meets however they are not required to. Parents are responsible for transporting their athletes to and from the meets. Most of the races we participate in are the 3k distance (just less than 2 miles) on a mix of trails or grass terrain for the most part. Many of these meets are established middle school meets.
For USATF (championship) races, racing distances vary based on age. Below are the distances for each age group:
- 8 & under run 2k
- 9 – 12 run 3k
- 13 – 14 run 4k
- 15 – 18 run 5k
To sign up, download and complete our Registration Form then email it to us a firstname.lastname@example.org or bring it with payment to a practice! If you competed with us for spring track, you’re good to go – just join us for practice!
